Here is our story
We go back to December 1982...
I returned home from a meeting. As I entered the living room, I noticed my wife was crying. Totally shocked, I asked her what was going on. This is what she replied:
I have been watching a TV show about Brenda, a 39 year old mother of 2 children, suffering from lung cancer.
- The doctors told her to stop smoking, she couldn't.
- Her husband asked her to stop smoking, she couldn't.
- Her children begged her to stop smoking, she tried but failed.
At the end of the show, the following text appeared on the screen: "Shortly after the recording of this show, Brenda died, 39 years young"
That is why I am crying and, I would like to stop smoking.
I replied: " If you stop smoking, I will too".
We both took our packets of cigarettes and threw them in the open fireplace, declaring:
"We will never smoke again!"
Of course we had a difficult time at the beginning, but we supported one another and adjusted our eating and social habits:
- No alcohol at all
- No substitutes like sweets, chewing gum...
- At least three pieces of fruit a day
- At least two litres of water every day
- Avoiding places of apparent temptation.
Whenever or whatever conversation we had with friends or relatives, we told them that we had stopped smoking and that we counted on them to support us. And they did.
And you know what? Until today, we haven't touched a cigarette or any other kind of tobacco again. Our house is totally smoke free and is a non smoking area: no exceptions for what so ever.
To reiterate, the following steps are necessary to stop smoking:
- Stop right now, do not designate a day.
- Destroy all the tobacco products you have.
- Inform everyone you know that you stopped smoking.
- Adjust your diet and habits.
- Don't reach for substitutes.
- Start or increase sporting (jogging, biking, swimming...)
- Say NO, NO, NO,..
Why use this method? Because it is the cheapest and most proven way to stop smoking:
- Cheap: no pills, no patches, no books, no potions, no magic ...
- Proven: like ourselves, many people followed our way successfully.
And when you're successful, this will be your reward:
- You will save a huge amount of money.
- What you save will be enough for an extra treat for yourself.
- Your home will be cleaner and smell fresh.
- No more stinking car, home, office, clothes.
- You will feel much better in the morning.
- No more coughing.
- Save on wallpaper, curtains, dry cleaning, washing.
- A better social and sex life (breath smell)
- Your food and drinks will taste much better.
- You will be glad that you can dine in a non-smoking area.
- Less medical costs.
- A better life insurance (don't forget to inform your insurance company)
- Less stress (where are my cigarettes?)
- Fewer days off work (why not ask for a salary raise?)
- ...
Hesitate no more.
